Awww Lily...

That Lily is such an animal lover!  She'll be happy to know that he's actually recovering!!!  The morphine (yes, they gave me morphine for him!) has allowed him to rest a lot and his kitty condo (George's old kennel) has been perfect for when we need to leave the house and he needs protection from Oliver the Wild!  I think it must have been a disk thing...thank god that it's not looking like a tumor.  He's been spoiled rotten.  I've slept with him in the tv room for 10 nights.  YES, I'm exhausted.

This past weekend was one of those picture perfect autumn weekends...and now it's cold.  The heat is on, the heat is on on on on on on...the heat is ON!  I'm working from home today and couldn't be happier to be away from the morgue.  More layoffs coming...ughhhhhhhh.  I keep thinking of when I was happiest in my working life...it was always when I was helping someone...the Christmas party I threw at Cabrini Green in Chicago when I worked for ITW or the supplies I gathered for Hurricane Katrina victims and sent to the Brett Favre Foundation...I gotta find a place to do good again.  Politics is definitely NOT IT.  It is depressing and dirty.  Nobody worthy of my belief.

Enjoy this awesome autumn...it's my favorite season.

Restless Fall

Poor Chuck! Lily loves that cat. I told her he was hurt, and she welled up. I hope he fully recovers. Crazy Oliver must still have a lot of energy! We had a lot of pets growing up didn't we. More cats than I can remember....Socks, Butterscotch, oh what was the name of the white one.... Angel?

I was reminded the other night when the cutest little cat came up our sidewalk and I had to hold him...that I am still very allergic to cats. It is a good pet, low maintenance and snugly. This cat was very young, maybe 6 months old...looked a lot like Chuck. So friendly. We called the phone number on the tag letting them know we found the cat in front of our house and didn't know if it was an outdoor cat. She called back and said, yep, outside cat. He goes out at night, gets a mouse then comes home for bed.  Ok, I just think that is weird. How could you want to get close to the cat after it ate a mouse. EWW!!!

I am feeling a lot like you are. A new beginning, a new hobby or just something! Its that time of year. Restless. I should join a club and workout like crazy, but that doesn't sound exciting either. Let's think of something we could do together!!

Sweet Charlie...

Been missing this blogging thing.  Really and truly missing it.  I feel like I have no outlet for my words and thoughts.  Please blog with me again Sissy.  We  n e e d  it.

Sweet Charlie has not been himself for a few days.  Took him to the vet this a.m. and he has a spinal injury ;(.  Two weeks of complete "bed rest" for him.  Huh??  I actually took a PTO day to figure this out.  It's amazing that, just like when my kids are sick and I'm focused only on getting them better, my focus has been completely on Charlie for three days.  He's so sweet and he's in so much pain - probably from a rough-housing match with Oliver.  Makes me sad.  The vet said if he doesn't get better, "there's always surgery" to which Chris responded with a rigorous shaking his head in a big NO (I was so happy and grateful that he left work to meet me at the vet though - I love a guy that loves animals).  This might not end well, but I'm going to do whatever I can for this sweet creature.  He's the one who would lay down next to George during his last few months and touch his paw.  He is all about love.

On another note, been making a lot of soup this fall. It all began when I found a wonderful turquoise blue Le Creuset stock pot at an antique shop for $40 and I LOVE it.  I seem to be nesting.  Trying to figure out my next steps.  50 seems to be a year of beginnings and endings.  I definitely need a new beginning.

just like old times...

It's a Saturday and we are all home - under one roof - just like old times.  But not for long...

Will post some pics from graduation weekend...it was a perfect time.

This week has been busy getting Peter ready for his London trip (heading to Purdue tomorrow for a week then London for three weeks), getting Emma's Boston apt lined up, etc.  She's moving to Boston for a job.

And, all of a sudden, today it's not busy.  It's cold outside, laundry is done and ready to be packed and we have no obligations today.  Emma and Peter, Ikidyounot, watched Power Rangers for two hours and giggled like they were back in grade school.  Chris is napping.  Emma made a cake.  Nobody wants to get out of their pajamas.  I am holding back tears wishing I could freeze time.

on a cuter note

Cherish

Tragedy is horrible but it makes you think how wonderful our lives are. A 51 year old coworker died on Thursday night after attending her son's Mother/Son event for his graduation from High School. Completely depressing. But, as always, you realize the little things you complain about on a daily basis mean nothing, its a waste of breath.

We all are in it together, just trying to do our best, as you said. I do not pray, but I try not to judge people for who they are. If you are a good person, doing your best, staying out of trouble, I don't care who you are. I wish there wasn't so much hate.  xo. k.

Hip hip hooray for May!!!

Spot on regarding the photo of Kate and William...saw that pic too and LOVED it!  So classy.

I agree with you on being humbled.  People tend to be a bit cocky and over confident, not to mention competitive in their 30's-40's.  Later 40's and 50's come and there's much more wisdom that you only learn from experience.  Things can change in an instant and by now, we know that.  Everyone is just doing their best...that's the bottom line.

Lots to celebrate - Evan's internship with the radio station, Peter's with the Sheriff's Dept. (the jail..omg), Lily's 15th and Emma's graduation this week.  We can't wait to visit later this month and celebrate it all!!!!  Long overdue!  Beyond grateful for it all.

I've learned to pray a lot more over the past few years.  I always pray to Mary, the Mother of Jesus.  I figure I'm a mom and she is THE mom so the Hail Mary is my personal go-to.  I literally fall asleep at night saying it and praying for so much...thanking for the good, asking for strength with the bad and just overall asking for grace every single day.  It's made such a difference.

Today is May Day....one of the best days of the year!  Everything is well watered and popping up that gorgeous lime green!  This week's forecast of SUN will make everything just explode.  Honestly, it's such a beautiful time of year!

Have a great week, Sissy!  xo, H
