color and shape perfection!  peter and i found these on one of our antique outings this summer...i love it that i have a partner in crime!  he's not interested in pottery or dishware, but is educating himself on history by finding things that interest him and finding out what they are worth...knives, military items, etc.  we're looking forward to our visit to le claire, iowa this week to check out american pickers' store with the family!

Another find on Etsy by treasureagain. They sell frogs for the top of mason jars pretty cheap- 5 handmade for $15. They also make solar lights that screw on to them, and sell flicker lights. I love this idea for our porches or hanging in the backyard for a party. I think I could make the frogs, easy with wire. I don't think I could do the solar lights, but I have seen stores carry the flicker lights during xmas. Might need to stock up this year for next summer. k:)

Ran across HB Fabrics on Etsy- LOVE IT!! Even if you are not a sewer, this is a place for fabric! Great prints and good prices. You could make a pillow cover using fabric glue, or cover a chair pad. Worth checking out! k:)

uniform debate

School is fast approaching, whether they like it or not. Evan has always worn uniforms. Lily wore them briefly, then didn't for 2 years. This year she is going to a new middle school where they wear them, and will be for the next 4 years. I know you have fought for uniforms at Emma and Peters school. I don't see what the big deal is. If parents only knew how much easier and cheaper it is to buy uniforms, they would go for it.

I also believe it puts all the kids on a level playing field. Everyone, for the most part, looks the same. Oh yes, you will have the girls wearing their skirts really high, and wearing tight pants, but for the most part they pretty much all look similar, especially the boys. Boys who may be thought of as being geeky, because of the clothes they wear, now look like everyone else. I just think it is a good thing. k:)
                                         

entertaining

I think you either love or hate "reality" tv. I enjoy it, it's entertaining. I don't idolize any of them. Most of them are either highly medicated or need to be. I admit I get to addicted to them. I have to watch them, if I miss an episode, I stay up late and watch it when it replays. So, they did their job with me, they sucked me in. My favorites right now are any "Housewives", Flipping Out, Bachelorette (which I have missed many episodes), Giulianna and Bill and any cooking shows. Other shows that I love that are not right now are Project Runway, Top Chef, Top Model and Rachel Zoe. k:)

I am in total agreement with you on entitlement. I think if you work hard you deserve to be rewarded. You should never assume you are entitled to something because of your color or background.

Love your flowers sissy! Wow- what a garden! I need some tips from you. Remember when you came here the summer we moved into our house. You helped me make the beds and plant. I tend to have a lot of boring perennials. I need to spruce it up next year, or start this fall. We are in desperate need of grass repair. Crabgrass, creeping charlie and other weeds have taken over.

entitlement...

it's a nasty word to most...to some it's probably empowering.  I, personally, think it's a very skewed view of one's self and one's family.  I've seen a lot of it lately and it's divisive.  To feel entitled to something inherently means you don't feel you need to earn or work for it...you just deserve it because of the color of your skin, or your social class (white, brown, black, purple, upper, middle or lower or even lower).  Acceptance into a university, being awarded a grant or being offered a job should be colorblind.  Heidi
