for our mom

Wishing for another week of progress on the road to "normal". Keep positive- this to shall pass.....

for the love of martha

I agree, the dress on Martha was horrible. She either did not look in the mirror before she left, or she looked in the mirror with bad lighting. Martha has never been one for fashion. Her clothes usually make her look like she is unhappy, not married and a bit snotty. Oh wait, that is Martha.

But for as much as it is fun to make fun of her, and ask her how the food was in jail, I do love MARTHA. That is the Martha and her team's ideas. She was the inspiration for our weddings, our homes and they way we live.

She brought class to decorating, and was here long before HGTV. Class is hard to define. But its about style. It's about how you present yourself. She made is look easy, and still does.

If you haven't been on her website lately, go there. It's full of great holiday ideas, tips and crafts.....for the love of martha! K :)

thankful

This Thanksgiving reminded me once again that family is so important. It is what keeps us going. It is the gravy on the potato's. It is who we are.

I was sad not to be with my immediate family. But, even though they were not here, I felt as though they were, standing next to me while I made the turkey, stuffing and all the goodies.  Carving the turkey reminded me of Dad doing it just so, while sneaking pieces. Mom and Grandma reminding me how to do the stuffing, and while decorating, my sister was guiding me with tips.

We had a fun time with Steve's parents. I had games for them to play while I worked in the kitchen. There were a few things I would do a little differently so I made a list for next year. Reminders on what not to do or things that worked.

Here is a pic of the table. Because of my blue rimmed Lenox china, I used a little more blue to pull it together. I also put the placecards in apples. K :)

life as i know it...

December is almost here!  October and November have been a blur of activity...

Emma's h.s. swim career ended last week at State.   She had a great season, despite her shoulder injury.  The key was an incredible PT, Dan Enz, at UW Sports Medicine.  He kept her in the water but taught her so much about how to care for her body as a swimmer.  Em qualified for 4 events (the max) at State...got 6th in her fly and 8th in her IM...all best times in her splits too!  She was so sad it was over, but I think she is looking forward to her future.  I had many "moments" but was so busy with swim team mom duties that I couldn't dwell on the "lasts."  Was so proud of her at the banquet when she got MVP again.  She works so hard.  Am most proud of her when other parents told us how much their freshman daughters look up to Em.  When we got home after the banquet, all snuggled up on our bed, Peter hugged her and said "I am going to miss you so much."

Peppered throughout the swim season, has been an up and down new friendship/relationship with a boy in her class...Nico.  She is smitten and sometimes it's hard to watch...waiting for his next text, finding out she is spending free mods with him instead of in the library, but I totally remember how that all feels.  It's been a bit of a distraction for her, but also something she needs to learn about and learn how to handle.

Today is the day we get some college apps sent in!  We're ready to go, just need to gather all of the essays, etc and hit send!  Swim resumes to coaches are going out as well!

We had a gorgeous fall...warm, so colorful and little rain.  Lots of great walks with George.  Chris came home at noon yesterday so we could finish up the leaf raking/blowing....it was so windy!  Seemed kind of futile, but we got it done.  Am quite annoyed with the neighbor who doesn't rake often...just lets them blow into our driveway/yard.  One last mow of the yard, got the storm windows up, the porch furniture put away, the mower depleted of gas and moved out the snow blower.  Winter, we're ready!!  Also, strung some lights, filled the bird feeder and put out some suet.

Peter started swim season this week...was a little shakey on Tuesday, but had two great practices in a row and now he is hooked again!  Coach Derek told Chris that on Thursday, Peter became a swimmer.  Emma is a swimmer, and now Peter is too.  I guess only swimmers know when that happens!  So proud of him.  He is very happy.

Apps, homework, Peter on a confirmation retreat this weekend...we will accomplish a lot!  Things just keep changing...constant adjustments and trying to keep it all in perspective, while enjoying all of the good stuff.  I am content with it all.  Looking forward to the holidays.  So grateful Mom is on the road to recovery with her awful blood issue....long haul but will be worth it if she is "fixed!"  We will see them one way or another soon!

Miss you Sissy!  Enjoy the season - H.

This may be my favorite photo ever

Blood is always thicker than water!

Martha, what are you thinking...

...dress/arm could not be more unattractive!

Will get back to blogging soon...new job, State, Peter starting swimming...
I'm tired.
