My pins today are GOLD!!! Remember in High School sissy, you were all about your gold. Gold chains, gold bracelets, gold earrings. Even when we got married, gold rings. Then it sort of disappeared in the early 2000's, at least for me. I loved my silver. I know it's been back for a while, but I wanted to highlight it today. It is so stunning, and so many beautiful pieces out there.
love, k :)

**You are right...there are so many beautiful things on Pinterest! We could do this forever. There are a lot of gross things unfortunately ....lots of tats, bad quotes and trashy outfits...lets stick to the pretty things! Love the flowers!

Pinning it Wednesday....

As I describe to everyone who has never been on Pinterest...

It's endless beauty.  I love this flower arrangement.  xo, H

I want to go to college!

This face sums up the past 24 hours....pure joy!  She is back at Butler and so very happy.  We could not ask for more.

Back to Butler...SO happy!

We saw a girl crying and crying when she was saying goodbye to her parents.  I wanted to tell her that if she's anything like Emma, she will LOVE it at Butler.

We didn't shed a tear saying good bye or on the car ride home.  We talked with Peter about his senior year and about all of the good stuff to come.

Emma's room is adorable, her closet is full of cute clothes and she has a great group of girlfriends and guy friends.  It looks like so much fun!

I am going to sleep like a baby tonight! xo, H.

fits and starts...

We were hitting the road to Indy at 10 a.m...locked, loaded and ready, when I noticed the brake lights stayed on the Uhaul...even when the Mazda's brakes were not on....so, stopped at Uhaul....wiring is bad so now we're back home waiting until noon when it should be fixed!  Update to come...xo, H

all is well and good...

Just got up with Emma at 5 a.m...her last swim practice here until Christmas break.  No tears today.  We have so much to do to get ready for tomorrow's trek to Indy!  I'm excited for her and she is practically busting at the seams to get back to her life.  We will definitely miss her every single day, BUT she is doing exactly what we wish for her!

Evan is going to LOVE it...I can't wait to hear all about it!!!!

Peter is a senior.  THAT is just starting to sink in.  So much to do with applications now.  Before we know it, we'll be blogging about Peter's adventure to college and then Lils starting high school!

Enjoy your weekend with Evan and know he's going to do so well!

Also, I love love love the twine holders...so cute!!!!

off to new adventures

I know what you mean about the lump in the throat. Off they go...Emma in her second year and Evan in his first. Wow! He is so ready, he wishes it were today. I am so excited for him to start this new adventure! It will be a lot of work, I hope he understands that.

It seems like this is the first step to his independent life. Only seeing him once in awhile. We have prepared him, that's all we can do. A little piece of my heart will leave with him, hopefully protecting him and keeping him safe.

Hope Emma has a fabulous year...and Peter now a Senior! Yes!

love, k :)

OH! What a cool idea for large spools of twine!

This idea is so simple ...but I love it. I am not sure what I would use them for, but I can totally see this in your kitchen. So you...love, k:)

lump in my throat....

It started last week.

Now that it's two weeks until Emma goes back to Butler, the countdown is on.  So much to do!  We did a major Target shop this week, shopping last week in Chicago and today we're hitting The Gap for her favorite jeans.

After we got home from Target, I felt the lump in my throat while I was unpacking her supplies, but I brushed it aside.  But last night when Chris and I were sitting on the porch, it caught up with me when I asked him if he's going to miss Emma and he quietly said "yes."  Oh boy, the waterworks started!  Based on last year, and just how I generally "operate," I will be bursting into tears on and off for the next three weeks.  It will be in private until right at the end and then I tell everyone to just ignore it.

It's not because I'm sad.  It's certainly not because I'm happy, but somewhere in the middle and just because I am her Mom.  We've had a wonderful summer.  Very uneventful.  Just EASY...cooking, shopping, watching movies, walking George, hanging out on the porch, little trips, nice dinners out, nice dinners in and just all of us being together.  Not a cross word has been uttered.  We've just enjoyed this summer.  Missing was swim meets and baseball games, but we adjusted.

With me working 3 days/week and Peter and Emma both working a lot (and Chris of course!), we were all just happy to get home at the end of the day and relax.  Emma was up most mornings at 5 to swim before she headed to the Jensen's house down the block.  I was up tending to the menagerie and garden.  Chris and Peter drove to work together every day...

Emma has saved her $ for spending during the year (high five!), but she's also allowed herself some spending money for clothes, make up, jewelry and crafts.  She has made some adorable purchases...all very "Emma"...a gorgeous sapphire blue dress, adorable tops, nice make up and very classic, preppy pieces.

Peter has saved every penny he's made this summer, and I mean EVERY penny!  He is looking for a used pick up truck and the money is burning a hole in his pocket!  He is so excited!!!  When he finds his big purchase, that will be the end of Chris driving he/them to school EVERY DAY for 14 years.  He is going to miss that.  So will Peter.

And I can't even get started on Peter's SENIOR year...can't go there yet and certainly can't let myself think about life as empty nesters (believe me, I know we'll adjust and enjoy the new lifestyle...).

SO, going to help get Emma organized and ready for her sophomore year in college.  She is SO HAPPY there that it makes it very hard to be sad (kind of dumb actually!) and going to savor every minute of Peter's senior year.  He recently paid Chris and me an great compliment and I will never forget it (thank you Buddy).

ALSO, going to focus on the "next time" we'll be in Indy for her meet in Sept, probably in Oct. and then all of us in FLORIDA for Thanksgiving.  Focusing on Peter's applications and fun outings with him.  Last year, the three of us focused on being busy and it was great.  A living room re-vamp is in the works (Chris does not get that big ass t.v. without a new paint job and possibly new carpet, although the carpet may have to wait)  I have a trip to DC planned for work in Septemer.  A lot to look forward to!  Having things to "look forward to" is very comforting.

I am thinking it's mostly tears of happiness.  As Grandma Bea, always requested, "no good-byes, only so-longs!

I am sure you are going through all of the same bittersweet feelings with Evan moving out.  Even though he is just minutes away, he is still not in your house.  THAT is what you'll miss.

xoxo, H.

Pin it Wednesday

Very good advice!  Not sure where that will be this year....going to FL for Thanksgiving...not sure on spring break....my bet is that we'll be visiting Texas universities for Peter (never been there!) and New Jersey for Emma's conference meet (never been there either!).

Ok....it's time to dish. Today I thought we would talk about the college process. You have been through it, I have just finished it and you will be doing it again this year...what are your thoughts on it? love, k :)

I found this on www.burkedecor.com

Wallpaper! I keep obsessing about wallpaper! I have been wondering where I could put it, but haven't made the commitment yet. Maybe a small space, or the kitchen. I would love it in the bathroom, but the humidity is too high in there for it.

It's not your grandma's wallpaper anymore. There are so many cool wallpapers out there now. The prices of the best ones are high thought, up to $200 a roll. So, you really have to love it....because getting it off is a bear!
