I'll second that!

You're right...I bet the Gingrich people are trying to make Mrs. Newt look older...I never thought of that!  And yes, it is creepy that she is married to someone who could be her father...that is always creepy.

I am disgusted with all politicians right now.  Newt's campaign is just as nasty as Willard's (Mitt's real name).  I couldn't care less about any of the candidates.  SO, unfortunately, the nutwing in the Oval Office will probably be there another four years.  At our state level, I am disgusted and disturbed with our Governor.  EVERYONE he surrounded/surrounds himself with is being indicted.  Today, he claims he's always behaved with integrity....having staffers fundraise from your County Exec office?  That is fundraising 101...S T O O P I D.  I do this for a living...there is NO WAY anyone in politics doesn't know how ILLEGAL that is...including the Governor himself!  If they don't, they're MORONS...which is even more concerning.  The ability/capacity to LIE is always amazing to me.

As I keep saying, WE DESERVE BETTER.

In most elections, TERM LIMITS would eliminate this constant campaigning/incapacity to know the difference between the real world and the incredibly-inflated-sense of self-world that these egomaniacs live in.  I don't believe anything they say anymore.  I am really concerned with the culture that allows the constant lies, or lying by omission.  WE NEED SOMEONE WE CAN BELIEVE...THEREFORE, ACTUALLY BELIEVE IN.  There are people of integrity out there...but this business of politics has gotten so nasty that anyone with integrity is not willing to get down in the slim and mud (and if they do get in, they get ground up and spit out)...kind of a sad state of affairs.

Ok, whew, got that out!  And, yes, I do miss W every single day.  He is/was not perfect, but he is a man of integrity.

miss ya

Wow! I had no idea she was our age! Yikes! I am sure they needed to do that so he doesn't look like he is robbing the cradle...he is exactly one year older than Dad....sorry Dad...its a little creepy..

This is going to be an interesting year. I am not sure who to vote for at this point. I am waiting for someone to say something that makes me interested. I kind of wish we could have a redo! I sure miss George in times like this! He has no idea how much some of us miss him.
In the words of Jack Burns.....miss you George, miss you everyday...
love k :)

the hair

This is not natural or attractive for a 45 year old.  I actually find it kind of creepy and rigid.  VERY stepford wife-ish.

Here's an "older" photo of her...she looks 10 years younger and much softer.

Who advises these people??!

comfort

Was trying to dig out of my paperwork, email, voicemail, text backlog just now and had a sudden craving for a fried egg sandwich.  Not stocked with groceries - due to my lack of energy - so I toasted some of Peter's whole wheat white bread, spread on the mayo, lettuce, two fried, runny eggs and some cheese.....SO GOOD and gone in minutes!

I don't remember if it was Mom or Grandma Bea that made these, but it was just what I needed to jump start me back to health!

There is something about craving eggs...when I was pregnant with both Emma and Peter, I craved a fried egg every day at 10 am...so I made and ate one!  I definitely think it's my body tellng me that I NEED the protein/nutrients.  Anyway, it was sooo good.  I ate it too quickly to take a photo so this is one I got off the internet....makes your mouth water, right???  Heidi

kleenex, cough drops and ahhhh, z-pack

what i've been doing
laundry, buying Rx's, blowing my nose, coughing endlessly,
sleeping, taking care of emma, chris and me with our crappy colds
 and now sinus infections

what i've watched
50/50 (good movie), ides of march (frightfully realistic), downton abbey (obsessed with this awesome series),
parenthood (like watching pieces of our life), the gop presidential
candidates (their behavior is nothing to be proud of)

what peter is doing
swimming/practicing his heart out every single day, often 2/day,
staying healthy and virus-free, making us all smile with his never
ending love and snuggles - it's a wonderful thing to ALWAYS know
we can count on peter's love

what i am thinking about
emma's recruiting visits to depauw and butler, emma's friend who needs
her as a friend, a candidate that needs to get in the race, my mom
who is getting more treatments, but also enjoying sanibel this week :),
peter's awesome focus on school and swimming,
getting back on the treadmill when i feel better!

its cold outside

We knew winter would come sooner or later. Man, its cold!! I feel like I am never warm anymore. The sidewalks today are covered with a thin sheet of ice, and snow has covered everything. It is a good time of year to try new recipes and remember old ones.

Yesterday I found the best deal at Target. Every Saturday I drop Lily off at dance and go to Target before picking her up. I have about 45 minutes, so you have to think fast. I really wanted to get a rotisserie chicken, but they do not have them ready at 9 am. But, next to it in the cooler were day olds, of rotisserie chicken and their big container of fried chicken. They were only $2.50 each! Such a deal. I bought one of each. Steve and Evan ate the fried chicken over the last couple of days, and I am made a chicken salad with the other. My recipe was chicken, shredded carrots, chopped celery, almonds, green grapes, mayo and Dijon mustard. Yum! Lunch or dinner for a few days!
What's your favorite deal sissy? love, k :)

lots of information

Between the information I have heard from you and the information I heard at College Day at CDH...I am feeling pretty good....as far as what needs to be done. I volunteered at College Day just to get the information, and I have a lot! From resumes, to great essays to ACT information! WOW!
I know you and Emma have a lot more to share with us...its a lot of work! It  will be good to start compiling now.
I know wherever Emma chooses will be perfect for her. She deserves it. love, k :)

My vote is for UST!!!

golden globes!

Well last night was Miss America, tonight is Golden Globes! Lily and I love watching the fashionista's! I have not seen most of the movies...but we mostly watch it for the glam!
I recently saw My Week with Marilyn, and Michelle Williams was really great, she could win it. They are saying Hugo could win best picture, have not seen it. The Help was good, but probably not worthy of best motion picture. All of the TV nominations are on channels I don't get, HBO and Showtime. I hope Modern Family wins, love that show. love, k:)

miss america-miss wisconsin!

Lily and I had a blast watching the Miss America pagent last night! When Miss Minnesota did not make it, she started rooting for Florida and Wisconsin! She cheered when Miss Wisconsin won!!! She said she wants to do pagents....I told her to work on a talent first! She admited she really just wanted the crown. love, k:)

feeling cruddy too

Well, first cold of the year. I swear when the Lysol antibacterial spray ran out last week, I was doomed when I forgot to replace it. We use that alot on door handles, faucets and really anything. Evan had it last week, he is doing better. It's a head cold, sinus and stuffed up nose.  I went to Walgreens and stocked up on some supplies to get me through. I really hope Lily does not get it, but I think it is inevitable.
Sorry to hear you still have it, and spreading it. I think it must have been the very cold nights we had lately......I hope you all recover quickly! love, k:)

still cruddy and adding victims daily...

This virus STINKS...I've been coughing and tired for 2 weeks.  No sore throat, slight fever at times, no body aches...just a cough and SO tired.  Emma has fallen victim and so has Chris and we just heard a few coughs from the t.v. room where Pedro is camped out.  SO, we're homebodies...Chris enjoying his new ipad and football, Emma devouring the Hunger Games books, Peter just happy to be home after another long week of 2/day practices and school and me on my third (not a typo) day sans shower (it's too tiring) but reading, cooking and baking.  The Pioneer Woman had a new show on today and I'm making the goods tomorrow!  I am also 100% caught up on laundry, notes and a few projects.  Mom said you have this bug too - sorry to hear that!

Downton Abbey kept us occupied today...I can see what all the hype is about...it's addictive!  Every publication I pick up from the Wall St. Journal to People is talking about this PBS show.  It's wonderful!  I highly recommend it.

Reminds me of a weekend years ago when the kids when to Papa and GJ's in La Crosse.  Chris and I had big plans to clean the basement, go out to dinners and have fun.  Instead, we rented 24 and watched endless episodes in one weekend.  It was great!

Hope you feel better Sissy and find your way back to our blog!  Will blog about the college path we're on...I truly can't believe we're really HERE...at the point of it being out of our hands...applications in...now just waiting and wishing she were 5 again...

love, Heidi

24 hour difference...

Yesterday

George and I were warm on the way to the vet (car windows open!).
Saw people with no jackets.
Took my jacket off and left it in the car when I went grocery shopping.
Ate a sandwich OUTSIDE at Panera.
Sat on the front grass with George for two hours in the sun - the ground was warm and I was barefoot!
Turned the heat off and opened the door to the porch for Charlie.

Today

SNOW
Blowing snow!
Hoods and mittens mandatory.
Slippery roads.
Freezing!

Crazy!

girlstuff - daddy, papa - don't read!

miss emma has been cursed with periods from hell...just like her momma...

first day of the 7 day event includes horrible cramps, headache and exhaustion.  today her cramps were so bad i had to pick her up from school.  she got in the car and described it as "a little man is in my uterus beating and scraping with an ice cream scoop."

on to other random nothings....

it's like march here in wisconsin...still no snow.  bizarro but wonderful!  i keep forgetting it's january.  wearing fleece, no gloves and putzing in my yard in JANUARY.

puppy george is "broken" again...other acl probs...makes me nauseous...taking him to vet on wednesday.  i adore this creature and mark my words/read my lips, i will do anything for him.

chris got an ipad from his dad - just what he needs - another gadget!

chris got a letter from notre dame admissions today saying that they have all emma's info and that they do give special consideration to alumus' children...said they will accept half of the applications of alumnus children and that she'll get a letter in april.  also said thank you for his continued support...hmmm.  anyway, it was the first time in this arduous process that emma has expressed how much she wants nd...she literally said today "i want to go to notre dame more than anything i've ever wanted."  like grandma veronica, i tell her i say a prayer for her every day and i do!

"charlotte" has added a few lbs...was doing great - even through the holidays - but have been a ravenous crazy woman lately...even with this godforsaken chest cold.  right now i have a box of special k with red berries that i am gobbling/woffing down as i type.  it began with the rum cake i made after christmas...i didn't care about sweets until that sweet cake...i dream of that cake...must make another.

going to rent downton abbey...it's all i hear about...on the web, on blogs, on the radio...can't wait.

my mother in law sent me the large spode christmas baking/lasagne pan...i LOVE it!  i love my christmas spode...made me giddy today!

wisconsin football is imploding...5 assistants going with paul chryst to pittsburg (katie chryst is in em's class) and a scandal with an alvarez assistant (he goes to our church)...hoping/praying it's not a penn state iceberg.

thinking all of the republican presidential candidate are DUDS....going to learn more about huntsman...he might be the one for me....believes in TERM LIMITS!  i miss gw...2004 was the best year...chris and i had a blast!  victory 'o4!

not ribbing you, but aaron rodgers is AMAZING...can't wait for another super bowl!

miss you guys...looking forward to our visit in march!!!

xoxox to you sissy, H.

p.s. USE EVAN'S DAMN COMPUTER - it's IN YOUR HOUSE...therefore YOU own it and you need to blog blog blog!!!!

Tell me about it, Stud.

Just watched Grease...haven't seen it in years and I still knew every line!  How many times do you think we watched the video or listened to the album...I'm guessing hundreds!  We were OBSESSED.  What a great movie!  Heidi

Sick, but yet another pebble!

I feel like crud...headache, chest cold, EXHAUSTED...but instead of plowing through my day as if I don't feel like this, I went back to bed after the family left this morning.  It's what Chris and the kids would do if they felt like this.  I never allow myself to do that unless I physically can't get out of bed.  So I slept for 2 solid hours.  Got up, did some laundry, now on computer taking care of some work, then heading to the sofa for another nap so I can feel better!  There's another pebble!  Heidi

pebbles

Love the pebbles story....so true...sometimes I need to think of the little things instead of the big picture. Do something different, mix it up a bit! Most people believe you should look at the big picture, but then you will miss all of the outtakes.
My pebble tomorrow is to enjoy my day with my boys. It is not very often that they are here and Lily is not. She will be at school, and the boys are off. Most of my time is spent with Lily, so tomorrow is their day....mix it up! love, k:)

scrumptious

I am here! Holidays are over and a new year has begun!
Your cake looks better than any cake I have seen!! I think you need to start a business....no seriously. Your biscotti and candied nuts you sent me were fabulous! You could call it "Home with Heidi" or "Heidi's Heavenly Homegoods"....
love, k:)
