Pistol's Excellent Day...

A week ago I caught up with a friend.  She and I have know eachother since Peter and her daughter started preschool together.  Anyway, she reminded me that her daughter likes to hunt and is thinking of the same field that Peter is...FBI, intelleligence, etc.  I mentioned this to Peter and he asked her to go to the open house yesterday at the Deefield Pistol Academy.  He was in La Crosse this week with Papa Pete and GranJan so actually texted her...her response was "I'd love to."  Long story short, they met up at the gun range with Papa Peter and her ,mom in tow.  After they left, Papa and Peter rented a 9mm automatic machine gun...they loved it!  After this wonderful morning at the gun range, he went on to a GREAT game of baseball....he scored a run that won the game and two awesome catches in right field.  All of his buddies are now calling him "Pistol."  He was riding high last night so, at his request, we bought him a lottery ticket!

So, Peter's first "date" was with a girl who loved going to the gun range with him and who he let shoot his handgun...his "perfect" kind of girl and Papa Pete was there to see it all!

Nothing better than seeing your children happy and feeling good!  He'll always remember this first "date."  H.

Diana

Mom, Lily and I went to an exhibit on Diana last weekend. I wish you could have been there. We loved our Diana! She was married when we were teenagers. I think she inspired girls our age to be who you are. She was only 36 when she died. Too young and so sad. I love that William and Harry are doing so well without her. We loved watching all of the Queen's Celebration. I am making sure Lily knows all about it, she loves it!

The Spencer family put it together, so it was really just about her and things from when she was little. Toys and books from when she was little. Report cards her school uniform and trunk. They also had her wedding dress and 20 other dresses she wore when she was older. Loved it!!!

Peter

That Peter....he is one funny kid!! I hope you are saving all of these for either his wedding or his kids!

perfect weekend...

After weeks/months on non-stop busy-ness, we had the most wonderful weekend...started on Friday with me sending off my weekly update to the Hovde campaign, wrapping up my work and literally shutting the door to my office.  Headed straight to the garden to putz, mow, sweep, rake and water...everything is looking beautiful.

While Chris and Peter went off to his baseball game (I never miss a game, but...) and Emma went off to practice at 4, I got things together for dinner on our porch with the Mlsnas.  Chris briefly left the game to pick up the chicken kabobs when PETER HIT A HOME RUN!  We missed it and we NEVER miss his games.  Anyway, he was happy...they also won the hard fought game by one point with Peter getting a walk and walking in the run.

Had such a good night with the Mlsnas...we talked about how much fun it was when they were our next door neighbors...loved watching their kids as babies!  Best nights were the summers around the fire with their baby monitor on our deck!  Emma and Peter were both home, much to Jacob and Hannah's delight, and we ate and talked and sat by the fire making s'mores.

Saturday arrived and we basically did nothing.  Everyone was happy when I said it was a "do whatever you want to and don't do anything you don't want to" day...I read, napped, did some laundry, putzed in the garden, ate Laredos with Chris on the porch and loved every minute!  Sunday was more of the same and then we all went to Peter's game in the evening....for as awesome as Friday night's game was, last night's was not...they all played like poop.

Emma was with us a lot...and we all love that.  I am trying not to think about August 18th, dropping her off at Butler...we are going to miss her presence so much, BUT she is ready, happy and so excited so we are too!

Love weekends like this!  xoxo, Heidi

Bar of Ivory Soap, December 28

I love everything about Ivory soap....the smell, the lather but mainly how clean it makes me feel.  I have used it my entire life.  Ivory soap and Oil of Olay.  Are you still a loyal user?  H

P e t e r

Two funny things from Peter...who is now 16.

Was talking to Papa about chicken wings and Papa asked if he had ever really been in Hooters (he and Chris do take out for wings there) and Peter said "yes, Papa, and it was a room full of bad decisions."

He also likes it when I make his breakfast...even a bowl of cereal.  A few days ago, I hear from him in the kitchen, "Mom, my milk is trapped in the milk bottle, come and let it out."

Oh Peter!  Heidi
