She is her own woman....
Yesterday she was home all day, but decided she needed to be "dressed" for the day of celebration! She found a brown flowery dress of Emma's, paired it with a cream flowery sweater, black tights and pink striped headband. I should have taken a picture of her. She really was "styling"! She knew we did not have plans to go out, she just wanted to be dressed. She asked why everyone wasn't off, it was a holiday after all. I told her it's a Hallmark holiday.

L I L Y B E A N

Speaking of awesome little women, my niece Lily ROCKS! As her favorite cousin said years ago, when Lily was VERY particular about the bottle nipple she would accept, "she's her own woman!" She IS her own woman and she is W O N D E R F U L. I've always said, she completed our family.

rollergirls

I had been asked several times by my friend Suzanne to go to the Roller Derby, and never thought that sounded like a good idea. It made me think of biker chicks and tattoos. But I finally went and took Lily. Suzanne takes her teenager daughter and she is pretty normal, so I thought it wouldn't ruin Lily for too long.

It actually was pretty fun. Their were a lot of families, and mostly normal people. We got there early to get the free t-shirt. We then played games to win prizes and paid a $1 to get Lily a bruise on her eye. Lily was getting into it, but didn't really know what it was all about.

2 teams raced for 2, 20 minute bouts. Yes, bouts. Not as crazy as I expected. I thought there would be fighting and shoving. Once I was explained the rules and how it worked, it was fun to cheer on your team. At half time a band that you would find at a legion wedding, playing polkas. Cheesy, but fun! Everyone goes to the floor and dances. Lily went down with the teenagers and danced her heart out. Then 2 different teams raced for 2, 40 minute bouts.

The hardest part of it was how long it was, about 4 hours. I am not sure if we will go back. But, it was an experience we will not forget!

Kelly nailed the National Anthem last night- I knew she would. The children's choir singing behind her was also just perfect! Ever since I was a cheerleader in High School, when I hear that song, my eyes well up. It is so emotional to me, but I am the same person who cries at commercials!

Madonna was a lot of "show", without the punch. It was ok, not my favorite. I think the songs she sang were not my favorites. I was really hoping for "Holiday"!! Vogue, at the Superbowl...really?

My favorite commercial was the one that won $1,000,000. The Doritos one with the dog who buried that cat and bribed the guy. Love that.

Oh the game....watched part of it. Uneventful, but a good ending.

book club idea

We had 2 birthdays in my Book Club last month. I went to Half Price Books and picked up 2 copies of an old classic, Wuthering Heights, wrapped them up with pretty card stock and for the tag used a bookmark. They loved it!
