i want to live here

Notting Hill, London by Eva0707

I also want to live where there is a town crier! I want to live above this place in London.  I hope I don't have to wait until retirement! Evan wants to go to school over there for a semester, maybe then??? love, k :0

pin it wednesday

Pin it Wednesday is all about Prince George!! YEAH!!! We agree...we love William and Kate! Just like we loved Diana. Oh how she would have loved to have been there. I love that Kate wore the blue polka dotted dress like Diana. I love that Will wore a blue shirt, no suit! (also love his cool belt) We are seeing a new generation emerge...and it's a good one!! Can't wait to see this little one grow up! love, k :0

The Little King...

Handsome father and baby. #royalbaby #princewilliam

Kate and William were just like any new parents...beaming and happy.  Then the Duke put the car seat in the back of the car and the little family drove off...just the three of them!  xoxo, H.

Love the tradition...

Yesterday, the town crier announced the birth of the future King of England.  Happy news!  I want to live somewhere that has town criers.  I definitely want to live in England someday to explore that beautiful country.  A goal for retirement!

Yay for the baby boy!  xo, H.

zinnias! cleomes!

Just saw this photo of zinnias and thought, "how have I not planted these in a couple of years?!"  Zinnias are one of my favorite annuals because they are such great cutting flowers.  The more you cut them for vases, the more they grow.  It's a win win!  Next year I will remember to plant them!

Almost forgot that I forgot to plant cleomes as well :(...

pinning it late...

I love it when people post beautiful fonts/sayings...makes me want to frame them.  I agree whole-heartedly with this quote.  Use your china, crystal and silver!!!  Life is short!  H.

Everyday is a special occasion.

Talk Tuesday con't...

I would like to slow down the summer clock.  Yesterday, when I was at Target, I realized that when Emma returns home this week end, we'll have less than a month until she is a sophomore at Butler.  That means we need to start organizing her stuff for college.  It's bittersweet.  We've had such a fun summer of us all together, but we're always excited to see them off on the next step...especially when they're so happy to do so!  Peter will be a senior (not even ready to go there yet.)

As long as there are things to look forward to, I'm happy in any season!  This summer has been carefree and easy, but I do love fall and fall is FULL of anticipation...Peter's college apps, Emma's swim meets, Peter's swim meets, football, Florida for Thanksgiving, pumpkin soup, apple pie and piles of leaves!

So, I guess I am just trying to savor the moments as they come.  Lots of grilling and fire pit time left on the calendar!

talk summer

Wow! We have had an odd spring and summer. I love summer, I don't want it to end!! 90's are too hot, but ok if its temporary. I feel like I haven't done anything yet! With Lily gone all of July, I am finding I am not doing my "normal" summer things. Like going to the pool, lake and parks. I will try to get to Cascade Bay Pool and Lake Calhoun with her when she comes back...it won't be summer without it!

Mason jars are such a sign of summer! Love your uses for them. I like to drink out of them! One of our favorite summer things is to grill. We grill almost all year round, but I love corn in the summer! I love opening my front and back door, and let the sunshine poor in. Spring - Fall makes me so happy. I really dread winter. Enjoy everyday....it will eventually get here!! love, k :)

summer in a Mason jar...

Best summer salad dressing...equal parts red wine vinegar and olive oil, then whatever sounds good...ground pepper, sea salt, some sugar or honey, crushed garlic, herbs.  Shake! So good!

My fave salad this summer is romaine lettuce, red onions, black olives, tomatoes, feta cheese and this dressing.

Speaking of Mason jars, I've always been a big fan.  Bought my first antique big blue ones years ago at RummageORama in Milwaukee with Kelly.  They hold nuts, milk bones and candy on the counter.

They also make great vases...

And, even better drink holders!  Yum...sangria!

Our Emmy...

She will turn 19 tomorrow!  She is a joy and we are so proud of her.  Today, Emma and I head to Indy and tonight we'll celebrate her birthday on Broad Ripple with Adri, Liz, Liz's mom Mary Lynn, Milly, Serena and Liz M.  Before I leave her tomorrow, we'll have breakfast at her favorite spot in Indy, Taste.  She'll be there for a week to teach at a Butler swim camp and to be with her friends.  Happy for her that she will have such a wonderful week!  We love you Emma and your birthday is such a special day. I remember everything about the day you were born...the first thing I said to you was "You're here, you're here, you're finally here"  xoxo, Mom

Pin it Friday (sorry to be late!)...

Got this from Bon Appetit a few years ago...pulled the page out and hung it on my refrigerator one summer to inspire me to eat like this...fresh and yummy!  Feta, ricotta, tomatoes, purple onions, fresh bread...xo, H.

I have 20 days without Lily. I decided I need to do some crafts, paint and exercise more! love, k :)

Pin Day

Since I will be working then packing like a looney to get to La Crosse on Wednesday, I am posting a pin today.  I've seen this on Pinterest several times and I just love it!  Can you imagine being so bold to do this in your house?  I would smile every time I walked into my bathroom.  xoxo, H.

i'd take a bath every day

Life is good...

Yesterday was a happy and sweet Sun day...76, sunny and no humidity.  Everyone got up late and had pancakes...one by one we all ended up in the backyard for the day.  Chris started out cutting down a branch, then another and then a few trees.  I weeded and helped haul logs and branches.  Peter manned the firepit for the afternoon burning anything that was dry and Emma was laying in the sun.  We roasted hot dogs for lunch and then the kids hooked up the sprinkler and filled up a couple of George's water "bowls."  Both of the kids said, before they went to bed, that it was really a fun day.  It was.  xoxo, H.
